The Rivette QUESTars Adventure Race Series

Planning for a Socially Distanced Event

It is very likely that if the Wiltshire Downs adventure race is to go ahead next month as it is currently scheduled to do so then social distancing measures will need to be implemented and adhered to.

This means making changes to the event to spread participants out where they would normally come together (at the start and finish, and before and after the race for example). If you are entered into this event we want to know what you think about our suggested proposal for a socially distanced event. Read on to find out more...

2020 Wiltshire Downs Adventure Race: Update 02-Sep-2020

This event was originally due to take place earlier this year on the 28 March but had to be postponed due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Back in mid-March when the 2020 Wiltshire Downs Adventure Race was postponed to the 10 October, we had no idea that all the subsequent events in the 2020 Questars Adventure Race Series would be affected in the same way or that we’d be having to socially distance ourselves from each other.

Six months on and we have a much better - but still no means certain - idea of what the situation regarding coronavirus will be like on the 10 October. What is clear is that if the event can go ahead next month then it is highly likely that social distance restrictions will still be in place. We are therefore planning accordingly and determining the best way to deliver a socially distanced Questars event. Options for next month’s event include…

  • Restrict numbers/attendance to those who entered first
  • Just hold the Trio Masters race and not the Trio Novice race
  • Holding the event over two days with half taking part on the Saturday 10 October and the other half taking part on the Sunday 11 October
  • Reduce the maximum time limit to 3 or 4 hours, with half of you taking part in the morning and the other half taking part in the afternoon
  • Not hold the event at all on the 10 October. Reschedule it for 2021 instead.

To maintain social distancing and preserve as much of the original Questars adventure race format as possible, we feel the best solution is to hold the Trio Masters and Duo race on the Saturday 10 October 2020 as planned and move the Trio Novice race to Sunday 11 October 2020. But before we do this, we want to know what those who have already entered this event think. We want to hear from you if…

  • You are entered into the Trio Novice race and can’t make it on Sunday 11 October 2020
  • You are entered into the Trio Masters race or the Duo race and need to hire a bike or have already booked a hire bike (as the plan would be for Cyclexperience to provide hire bikes on Sunday only)
  • You no longer wish to participate in the Wiltshire Downs event next month and would prefer instead to transfer your place / whole entry over to 2021

Please This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. before the end of this week if any of the above apply to you or your team. If you are in a team please make it clear whether you are responding on behalf of everyone in your team (all team members) or just yourself. The deadline for receiving replies is Sunday 06 September. We will then make a decision next week and let you know what the plan is, no later than close of business on Friday 11 September.

Please do bear in mind that we are not proposing moving the Trio Novice race to Sunday 11 October 2020 for our benefit (splitting the event and holding it over two consecutive days like this creates more work for us and adds cost). We are proposing doing this, for you the participants, so that…

  • Social distancing can be maintained. Your health and safety is our number one priority.
  • Everyone that has entered to take part can do so
  • You get to take part in a standard-length Questars race (not a shortened version)

We thank you in advance for your understanding in these ever-changing and challenging times.
