Start
& Finish
On starting, you will be given the CP values for the event.
Starts for Masters in Questars Trio will be at 30 second intervals
from 1000 onwards.
The Masters’ Questars Trio is a continuous challenge of 6
hours. The Questars Duo and all Trio Novices have 5 hours. You decide
how much time to spend on each stage of the race based on the strengths
of your team, and the value of the CPs available to you.
WHAT
TO DO ON THE DAY - NOTES
to help you get the most from your day at this Questars event.
REGISTRATION
1. Arrive at
the event base in good time. Many racers like to get to the event
venue before Registration opens so they can get themselves and their
kit organised and ready before collecting their team packs when
Registration.
2. Check and
review the content of your team pack. It contains:
- One EMIT
card to enable electronic scoring. Do take particular care of
this. How to use it will be explained at the Race Briefing
- Race numbers
for each team member and safety pins to attach them to you or
your rucksack whichever you prefer
- A laminated
double sided map of the event area
- A team list
of who is racing in the same category as you today. This also
details the time your team can do the kayaking stage and your
start time.
BEFORE THE RACE
1. Review the
location of all the checkpoints (CPs) that are pre marked on your
race map.
2. Consider
your route choices and make a provisional plan of which CPs you
aim to visit and in which order. You can do whichever stage you
wish first – albeit bear in mind your allocated kayaking time.
3. Get yourself ready for the start of the race with all the kit
you’ll need for the first stage.
4. Sort out all the rest of your race kit and bikes and take them
to the nearby Transition Point (TP). They can be left there as directed
by the Quest marshal. You may wish to apply some security measure
to your bikes
5. Keep drinking so that you are fully hydrated ahead of the start.
6. All team members need to attend the Race Briefing at 0930 when
further information about the course will be provided.
RACE
START
1. Starts are
at 30 second intervals from 1000 onwards for those taking part in
the Questars Trio Masters event. Questars Trio Novices will follow
and then the Questars Duo teams will start.
2. As you cross the start line you will:
a. activate your EMIT electronic scoring card that records both
your race time and the number and order in which you visit CPs,
and
b. collect a CP values and descriptions sheet. Put this in your
team plastic pack to keep it clean and dry and refer to it throughout
the race.
3. Do review your outline course in the light of the CP values and
note which are the dummy CPs - these are certainly not worth visiting!
DURING
THE RACE
1. Navigate
yourselves to as many CPs as possible. Upon arrival at each CP activate
your EMIT electronic scoring card as demonstrated at the Race Briefing.
2. At the end of each stage go to the Transition Point (TP). There
is no need to do anything with your EMIT card at the TP (except
keep hold of it) just proceed directly onto your next chosen stage
as quickly as possible.
3. You may transition ONCE only between the three stages. You may
break either your run or bike stage at the kayak TP to undertake
your kayaking stage within your allocated kayak time period.
4. Do not go off the edge of the map, be aware that all areas beyond
the map are Out of Bounds.
5. Do maintain your liquid and energy food intake throughout the
race. There is water available at the Transition Points.
6. Please respect the local area and the locals. Please close gates
that you find closed and take great care with any livestock you
encounter. Please read and follow the notes on the Country and Mountain
Bike Codes as displayed at the event base and detailed on the Adventure
Race Format page of the Questars website.
7. Do not infringe private property and keep to public rights of
way as described on the event map key - in particular no bikes may
be taken on footpaths. Not even if they are carried!
8. Bike helmets must be worn during the mountain bike stage and
the provided buoyancy aids during the kayaking stage.
9. Carry a first aid kit and a mobile phone (or change for a public
pay phone) in each team and take care of yourselves so that neither
is needed. If you do unfortunately have an accident that requires
the emergency services phone them first and then one of the Quest
team (phone numbers on your event map.)
AFTER
THE RACE
1. At the end
of your final stage go directly to the FINISH line and record your
finish time using your EMIT card.
2. Then proceed to the download station at the event base inside
and hand in your EMIT card and collect a print out showing the order
and time at each of the CPs you visited.
3. Then congratulate yourselves on completing your race!
4. Relax, have a drink, change and review your course with fellow
racers prior to the prize giving which will be held as soon as possible
after the last finishers have returned.
5. After the prize-giving return to your cars and drive home safely.
Take plenty of stops on the way home as you will be tired!
6. Full results and a race report will be posted on archive.questars.co.uk
